As stated in his blog, Steven Hall said that there were going to be two recurring characters, one which "could barely even be called a cameo"... So, in my infinite procrastination of schoolwork, i have compiled a list of characters, people, pets, names and so forth mentioned in The Raw Shark Texts The list is as follows:
Eric Sanderson (The First, The Second, The Gold... etc.) Clio Aames (and Mr and Mrs Aames) Scout (and Polly, her younger sister) Dr. Helen Randle (and Rusty) Mark Richandson Dr. Ryan Mitchell Ian + Gavin Trey Fidorus Aunty Ruth and John Bleak Dean Rush Mr. Nobody (uncle- taxi driver, and aunt) Mycroft Ward Thomas Quinn Story of Tekisui and the Shotai-Mu -Tekisui - Hui-Yaun - Isamu (Kenshin - Nibori - Susamu) Danielle Grayson (Greek Translation) Paul and Jane + cat Dusty (backpackers from London) Captain St. John Lewis (first to catalog the Ludovician) Dr. Victor Helstrom (An Encyclopedia of Unusual Fish) Jones (from the Aquarium Fragment) Steven Webster (Curator of the Webster Fragment Collection) Eva Signet real people: -Sherlock Holmes/Arthur Conan Doyle + Charles Darwin + Paul Auster + Tegmark Letters from the wet box: -Simian Keslev - Bob Fenton - Harrison Brodie - Steven Hall (of course!!) Mythological figures: -someone else can do this...
So, this is my list. The relevance, however, depends on who's reading.

Since Grayson only appears in the Greek edition, could that be the barely cameo?

As for B2, by best guess would be "book 2". I base that largely on Steven in interview(s) saying how the protagonist of his next book (which would be his second published book), Danielle Grayson, make an appearance in the Greek Translation. Danielle Grayson's Undex (36/36) entry states "Greek Translation Only" leading me to believe she is the protagonist of the next book. In the Canadian paperback Undex (36b/36) B2 is listed her along with her name. It's been mentioned before. It seems to be a probable idea. But i'm still counting on Gavin showing up!!

From Steven's 4 April 2007 blog post: "C) A character from my next book, Danielle Grayson, makes a fleeting guest appearance in The Raw Shark Texts, but only in the Greek translation of the novel. TRUE – Yes she does. Danni Grayson will be in Greece shortly…"

I had a feeling I had read that somewhere. Thanks again sheldon! You're on top of it today.
I think Gavin will be a must. :D

You're quite welcome. heartbreak wrote:I think Gavin will be a must. :D Definitely :D I also found this in The Red Cabinet about Negative 36: "B (or B2): Thought to refer to "book 2". This may be a reference to Steven hall's next novel, which he once mentioned on The Cult forum. He provided the following four "clues": [1], [2], [3], [4]. It is unknown of "Book 2" refers to this text."

Does anyone actually have the Greek translation? How exactly does this Danielle Grayson make a cameo there?
EDIT: I am also planning on making a new Red Cabinet thread, tentatively called 'Unsolved Mysteries', to contain all the non-negative bits and pieces floating around.
That is, once posting privileges get sorted out.

For what it's worth - €16.20, apparently - the Greek title seems to be Κοσμικά σύμπαντα ("Secular Universe" according to Google Translate), since we seem to have lost the "Comprehensive Guide to Editions" during the forum move.

How about this for an idea... Eric had an estranged/unknown twin sibling, who has been searching for him and came across Gavin the cat and is vaguely aware of what is happening (re:the ludo) by some strange twin sense) and is close behind on his trail or something??
Let me take you down the corridors of my mind....

Another one to add to the character list (maybe make a "meta" subsection or something), would be Eva Signet, who works for Mr. Webster on his Fragment collection.

I was considering that, but i decided to leave it out... I sort of got lazy after a while (note the giving up on mythological characters ) :S Ok... i added her.

Thanks. And just to be that much more of a bastard, here are a few character that only appear in "The Aquarium Fragment (Prologue)" (aka negative 1/36): The First Eric Sanderson Jones Three scribbling old men Granddad (in memory, only noting it because his picture is on the rawsharktexts.com page that leads to the Aquarium Fragment) Also, another category might be the names that appear inside the various conceptual fish through the book and the negatives. Off the top of my head: Mr. Olm Paul A bunch of names from Stories from a Phone Book (this in on page 58 in the Canadian Hardback) Also, "Mr. Olm" shows up in quite a few pictures of conceptual fish. He's in the Ludovician in The Aquarium Fragment, the same picture again at http://steven-hall.org/,

Jones is already on the list, but Mr. Olm has always made me curious. I googled "Mr Olm" and didn't have much luck (i don't know what i was expecting!!) i also believe that Danielle is in one of the conceptual fish images...

It's possible. I'll definitely keep an eye on on my current read-through (I'd forgotten how enjoyable the book really is. It just goes down so, so well. Fantastic).
Once again, I'm going to try and expand the red cabinet into more than just a negative warehouse once I can post there again. I have a few things in mind, a few of which I've mentioned already, a few of which I'll cull from threads like these. Figure out where all the conceptual fish text comes from, and what it says (page 217 (canadian edition), for instance, is basically readable, though it definitely loops and is quite headache-inducing to look at).
Should be good. Or, I hope it will be.

Steven, throwing fuel on the fire...: "Speaking of the forums, it’s really rewarding to see how the news of two returning Raw Shark Texts characters in Book 2 (known for now as Hula Hoop!) has stirred up a flurry of activity and speculation in there. Kudos for compiling a list of all the possibilities, guys. To fuel all that lovely speculation (I know, I really can’t help myself) I guess I could say that the return of one of those characters is actually kinda possible to predict if you think about their role and slightly odd story arc in Raw Shark Texts."

That's pretty interesting, and sort of says, at least to me, that they are probably a character with a pretty significant role in TRST.
Odd arcs? Hmm.
Well, for one, for being the main "bad guy", Mycroft Ward never actually shows up in any form. I remember Steven addressing this once, in response to a review that offered this up as a criticism. Steven said something to the effect of "it's not like I just forgot to include the main villain by accident."
